Collaboration has been key in promoting the new Southern Tier Rideshare.  Formally launched in 2014, the Mobility Managers of Chemung and Steuben counties work to promote this green, economical alternative to the single occupancy car trip.

2015 saw a multi-county effort to promote International Car-Free day with a two week Car-Free Challenge, which  encouraged people to walk, bike, carpool (Southern Tier Rideshare) or take C TRAN as an alternative to their single person car trip.  Collectively over 8000 miles were logged and we look forward to another successful event next year!

Learn How to Ride

Chemung County’s mobility manager works to get the word out about transportation options like public transit.  Also, we have a Bus Buddies program! Trained volunteers act as travel trainers, people who provide individualized training to give a person who wants to become a rider the skills to travel safely and independently on public transportation. Contact Chemung Volunteer Action Corps at 734-4161 if you are interested in having a Bus Buddy assist you!

Riders Advisory Council

We’re here to listen. C TRAN has two Riders Advisory Councils, one that is made up of senior citizens and people with disabilities and the other with Corning Community College students and staff participating. The Councils discuss appropriate improvements to be made to our transit system that will better meet riders’ needs. The Elmira group meets quarterly and the CCC group meets twice per year. Contact the mobility manager if you would like to participate in this dialog.

Southern Tier Rideshare

Public transit may not meet the transportation need for everyone. Chemung County is piloting rideshare (carpooling) software, along with Steuben County.  This is a new service so check back frequently if you don't find a match immediately.  To access the new rideshare website Click the Southern Tier Rideshare logo:
