Pay Reduced Fares With Cash & Reduced Fare ID Card

If paying a reduced fare with cash, you must show one of the following items when boarding:

  • Reduced Fare ID Card
  • Proof of identity

Reduced Fare ID Cards can be purchased at the Chemung County Transportation Center at 100 E. Church Street, Elmira, NY 14901. They cost $2 each and are valid for up to three years.

Pay Reduced Fares with a SmartTap Reloadable Card

You can also pay reduced fares with a Reduced Fare SmartTAP Reloadable Card.

The Reduced Fare SmartTAP Reloadable Card has a lifespan of eight to ten years, and it can be loaded with funds at any SmartTAP sales location. They cost $5 and are available for purchase at the CTRAN Administrative Office.

In order to obtain a SmartTAP Reloadable Card, you must provide an active Reduced Fare ID Card and photo ID at the time of purchase. Don’t have an active Reduced Fare ID Card? Just bring a valid photo ID at the time of purchase and, if proving a disability, a qualifying letter from a physician.

Reduced Fare Criteria

Seniors 60 years of age or older are eligible to ride CTRAN for a reduced fare. Seniors ride free on all local city routes on Mondays; proof of age is required at boarding.

Customers who have a disability and are under 60 years of age must provide an original letter from a qualified physician stating that they are disabled or provide an appropriate social services award letter. Disability status must be renewed at least every three years, and there is a processing fee of $2.

Children 5 years of age or younger ride free if they are accompanied by an adult (limit of three children per adult). Youth 6 to 18 years of age can ride at reduced fare rates. High school students must show a high school photo ID for proof of age. College IDs are not accepted.
