Catch a Bus with CTRAN’s Flag Stop Service

Did you know you can flag a bus down at any point on an established route? That’s because CTRAN offers the convenience of a “flag stop” service on all of its routes.

In rural or less densely populated areas, the flag stop system offers convenience and accessibility where fixed bus stops may not always be practical.

How to Use the Flag Stop System

A woman with a purse stands on the sidewalk, energetically waving to signal an approaching bus to stop.

Using the flag stop system is simple. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to use it:

  • 1
Confirm that you’re on the established CTRAN route you want to take and wait for the bus to arrive.
  • 2
Make sure you have bus fare.
  • 3
When you see the bus approaching, confirm it’s traveling in your desired direction.
  • 4
Make an obvious motion, such as waving your arms or waving your CTRAN bus pass and looking directly at the driver.
  • 5
If it’s dark out, please use a small flashlight or light from your phone to catch the driver’s attention.
  • 6
The driver will pull over to pick you up at the nearest safe location.
  • 7
Pay the fare and enjoy your ride!

Other Tips for Using the Flag Stop System

  • You do not need to schedule stops on a route ahead of time.
  • Review CTRAN schedules and routes ahead of time to see which are most convenient for your needs and schedule.
  • Visit the Routes page to view each route in greater detail; each route has a map that allows you to zoom in and see exactly where the bus travels.
